Valances & Cornice Boards
Valances come in every size and shape imaginable!! The options are almost endless when it comes to these more subtle window treatments. While valances are often incorporated with shades, they can be stand-alone treatments as well. Most valances consist of fabric suspended from a board over a window or doorway. This fabric can be flat, pleated, gathered, tucked, etc. to give the desired look. As with most window treatments, trim can be applied in several ways to highlight the design of the valance.
What Type of Valance Do You Want For Your Window?
- When choosing the style of valance that is appropriate for the room, think of the style, the size, the height, and also the feel of your chosen fabric.
- Stiffer fabrics will do well in the more structured valances and softer more flowing fabrics will drape better for valance styles that have more volume.
When designing a tailored valance, flatter fabrics will lend themselves better to the crispness of the design than a textured fabric like velvet.Think about any design motif that is present in the fabric and design your pleats around that.Play around with the size of your pleats. You may like an asymmetrical look or pleats that either increase or decrease in width.
