MEASURING FOR SHADES

INSIDE MOUNT OR OUTSIDE MOUNT?

Decide whether you want your shade to mount to the inside our outside of you your window framing/moulding. There are advantages and disadvantages to both styles.

Window Inside Mount

INSIDE MOUNT SHADES

Provide a clean custom look when using the tailored shade styles.

Deeper windows integrate better with inside mounted shades to allow room for mechanics (1 1/2″ inside mount space required).

Works best with Flat Roman Shades or shades that have a linear finish. Not recomended for shades with bottoms that have a swagged or bell appearence.

Note: Inside mounted shade not recommended for a window that is not square.

Determine if window is square for an inside mounted shade:

This can be done by measuring from corner to corner (diagonally). So long as the measurments match up the window is square.

MEASURING FOR INSIDE MOUNT SHADE:

Measure the width and length, inside the moulding, to acheive shade size corredtly. Be sure to double check all measurments.

square window

It is important to note that the width of your shade will need to be atleast 3/8″ more narrow, when finished, than the inside of the window framing to allow for smooth opperation. Make sure you communicate you measurments accuratly with C Winn Designs. Provide us exact measurments, we will deduct accordingly to properly fit your shade.

OUTSIDE MOUNT SHADE

Can hide imperfections on the framing/molding of the window. Outside mounted shades also allow you to bring attention to a smaller window or make it appear larger by increasing the overlap.

Works best with any type of shade. Is most appropriate for shades with swagged or bell bottoms.

MEASURING FOR OUTSIDE MOUNT SHADE:

Start with the horizontal and vertical measurments of the outside of the framing/molding. Then add overlap to the top bottom and sides to satisfy desired look. The more overlap the less likely light will come through.

Shade Outside Mount

NOTE:

  • Remember to add atleast 3″ of overlap to the top of the shade to account for mechanics and mounting brackets for outside mount. Inside moununt shades are mounted into framing.
  • A template will be needed to custom fabricate any shade with circular or irregular shaped framing.
